About Atholl Eyecare

Atholl Eyecare is led by Kathleen McQuade, who graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2013 before beginning her career with independent opticians in Edinburgh.

From the outset, Kathleen was drawn to independent practice because it allowed her to spend time with patients, build relationships, and provide care that is genuinely tailored to the individual. She believes the best outcomes come from understanding not just a person's prescription, but their lifestyle, priorities and concerns too.

In 2019, she opened her first practice in Aberfeldy with the aim of creating the kind of opticians she would want to visit herself: welcoming, professional, and focused on doing what's right for each patient.

Kathleen particularly enjoys the investigative side of optometry. Whether it's solving a complex vision problem, helping someone find a more comfortable visual solution, or identifying signs of eye disease before they affect sight, she values the difference that thorough, attentive eye care can make.

In 2024, Fiona Low joined the team, allowing Aberfeldy Opticians to expand and open its second practice in Pitlochry, Atholl Eyecare. Kathleen and Fiona's connection goes back many years—they worked together before either had qualified as optometrists. Sharing the same values around patient care and independent practice, Fiona was a natural fit for the team.

Together, they are committed to providing thorough, personalised eye care, supported by the latest technology and a genuine commitment to looking after the communities they serve.
