Emergency Eyecare

Please call us promptly if you experience:

• a sudden change, reduction or loss of vision
• new flashes, floaters or unusual shapes in your vision
• a painful, red or inflamed eye
• sudden blurring or distortion
• sensitivity to light
• something lodged in your eye
• an eye injury or any other symptom causing concern

We reserve an appointment each day for emergency eye problems. As with an urgent GP appointment, please call us as early as possible—ideally before 10am, where circumstances allow 

A member of our team will ask some questions about your symptoms so that we can assess how urgently you need to be seen. 

Depending on the nature of the problem, an optometrist may offer initial advice or arrange an appointment at an appropriate time based on clinical need.

Do not wait for your next routine eye examination if you notice a sudden change in your eyes or vision.

Outside our opening hours

Atholl Eyecare is open Monday to Friday, 9am–5.30pm. If you require urgent advice outside these hours, contact NHS 24 by calling 111.

For a serious injury, a chemical burn to the eye or symptoms that may be life-threatening, call 999 immediately. Chemical exposure requires immediate medical attention; rinse the affected eye continuously with plenty of clean water while emergency help is being arranged
